Here is a simple example of what that looks like in practice. A standard Pilates leg lift might use a small ball between the ankles to activate the inner thighs and deep hip flexors. In a Sculpt & Flow session, we take that same movement, the same ball, the same engagement cue, the same breath pattern, and perform it from an armpit hold on the pole.

A published peer reviewed study comparing female pole dancers to untrained women found that pole dancers had a significantly higher fat free mass index and lower body fat percentage, with the most measurable differences showing up in the upper limbs.
This was not a study of professional athletes or women who were already highly trained. These were recreational pole practitioners whose bodies had changed as a direct result of the practice.
A 2024 longitudinal study followed women through 20 weeks of pole dance training and found significant improvements in body composition and muscular strength, including measurable increases in muscle mass in women who had no prior pole experience before the study began.
